The Greek Island Holiday That Works for Everyone
Are you looking to go on a Greek island holiday? For family groups comprising tourists of every age, this can often feel like a balancing act. You’ll need to keep everyone entertained while still giving the adults enough time to relax. And what if you’re taking along family friends, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, all of whom might bring along competing priorities and desires?
The good news is that many of the best Greek islands offer enough variety and convenience that you can keep everyone happy. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer and see how we might build an itinerary that keeps everyone happy.
Why Corfu is a strong all-rounder
Greece is a country that comprises around six thousand islands, depending on how you count them. The great news is that there are several obvious front-runners among them.
Corfu can be reached easily from the UK, without the need for complex airport transfers. There are historical sites here, as well as gorgeous beaches. You’ll be able to get around the various towns and villages without needing to hire a car. Many of those settlements, like the iconic Corfu Town, have been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Choosing accommodation that balances energy and calm
Your choice of accommodation will have a big impact on the extent to which you enjoy your break. You’ll generally have a choice between self-catering villas and all-inclusive resorts and hotels. Look for separate adult and family areas, especially if you know that some members of the group will want a break from other people’s children. A variety of dining options and a good selection of activities that will appeal to everyone might make the difference.
A great place to start is the Aeolos Beach Resort, which will offer family pools, an area for adults, and excellent transport links to neighbouring Corfu Town.

Building an itinerary that avoids arguments
Keeping everyone happy is often a matter of building the right itinerary. Try to ensure that no one spends too long doing any activity that isn’t specifically there to meet their needs. For example, if an adult has to spend the morning on the beach with the kids, then they might be able to retire in the evening for a spa session or a stroll around the local town.
Resist the temptation to squeeze every ounce of value from your break by overcrowding your itinerary. You’ll enjoy yourselves more if you have free time to decompress.
Food that pleases fussy eaters and food-lovers
A trip to Greece is a chance to try out authentic Greek food. You might find that there are plenty of tavernas that allow you to do precisely that. But the buffet-style resort dining options might be more of a low-stress option. With so many dishes available, it’s likely that even the fussiest kids will find something they like. Corfu is big on baked dishes and seafood, and there’s enough variety to appeal to everyone.
Making the trip work for different budgets
If you’re worried about how you’re going to manage day-to-day spending, then an all-inclusive resort will help to bring down the uncertainty. Taking a bus or sharing a taxi might allow you to cut out the cost of car hire. It’s also worth avoiding the peak of summer, if that’s possible, and therefore costs tend to be lower during the ‘shoulder’ seasons.
Final takeaway
It’s possible to make even the most diverse group of travellers happy during a trip to the Greek islands. What matters is that you pick the right islands – and that you plan and budget well ahead of time.
