Dressing for every season on the golf course
The weather can be one of the most unpredictable aspects of a day on the golf course. One minute, you could be basking in the warmth of the sun, the next, you might find yourself battling the wind or caught in a sudden downpour.
The right clothing can help you stay cool and focused in the heat of summer or warm and flexible as the weather turns cooler. Let’s explore how to dress for the elements so you can play your best, no matter the season.
Spring and summer considerations
During the warmer months, you need clothing that allows you to move freely while keeping you cool. Choose lightweight, moisture-wicking fabrics that will help pull sweat away from your skin and keep you dry.
Shirts with breathable mesh panels or those made from synthetic materials, such as polyester blends, are great choices. Opt for tailored shorts or trousers with a relaxed fit to keep you comfortable while ensuring you can move easily.
When choosing footwear, look for golf shoes with a good grip that also offer breathability. It’s crucial to protect your skin from the sun, so don’t forget a hat with a wide brim, sunglasses to block harmful UV rays, and suncream to prevent sunburn.
Staying comfortable in cooler weather
As the temperature drops and the wind picks up, keeping your body warm without restricting your movement becomes your main concern. The key is layering – adding warmth without bulk.
A quality men’s golf jacket designed for cold weather is an excellent investment. These jackets are typically lightweight but offer insulation and wind protection, so you can swing freely without feeling encumbered.
Under your jacket, wear a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. A long-sleeve polo shirt or a thin merino wool sweater can provide just the right amount of warmth without overheating.
As for the lower half of your outfit, you’ll want to wear trousers made from a stretchy, flexible material so that you maintain mobility in your swing. Don’t forget about your gloves – consider wearing ones that provide warmth while still offering a good grip.
Adapting your wardrobe for year-round play
Golf is a year-round sport, and being able to adapt your wardrobe to the changing seasons will help you get the most out of your game.
Start by investing in key pieces that work for multiple conditions. A versatile jacket can be layered for cooler days or worn alone on milder days. Similarly, water-resistant golf trousers can keep you comfortable through both dry and wet conditions.
In addition, be mindful of footwear. A solid pair of waterproof shoes will ensure your feet stay dry, no matter how soggy the course gets.
Having a selection of performance socks is also crucial – opt for ones made from wool or synthetic fibres for moisture control. With a carefully selected wardrobe, you’ll be ready to take on whatever weather the golf course throws your way.

Why Family Gardening Is Having a Quiet Comeback
There’s a noticeable shift happening in how families spend their time. It isn’t loud or trend-led, and it’s rarely documented with before-and-after shots. Instead, it’s quieter and slower, rooted in small routines and shared moments. Family gardening is part of that change.

PETER SIDWELL’S HOMEMADE WAGONWHEELS & HOB-NOB STYLE BISCUITS
This month, I’m thrilled to share two of our all-time favourite bakes: our homemade Hob Nobs and nostalgic Wagon Wheels. These recipes are more than just sweet treats—they’re time capsules. The Hob Nobs came from a rainy weekend when we had oats, butter, and not much else in the cupboards. The kids loved rolling the dough into little biscuit balls and watching them flatten in the oven. Dipping them in chocolate was the final touch—well, that and licking the spoon clean!
