Incorporating Hair Care Into A Bedtime Routine For Kids

As a parent, incorporating hair care into your children’s bedtime routine can be a game-changer for maintaining healthy hair and ensuring a stress-free start to the day.

Establishing this habit  promotes good hair health to your children. Here are some tips and tricks to seamlessly integrate hair care into your children’s nighttime routine.

Incorporating hair care into your children’s bedtime routine doesn’t have to be a chore. With these simple and effective tips, you can ensure that your children’s hair remains healthy.

Remember, a little care goes a long way, and starting these habits early sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy hair practices.

Start with a Gentle Brushing

  • Before bedtime, gently brush your child’s hair to remove any tangles and knots. This not only makes the hair more manageable but also distributes natural oils from the scalp to the ends, promoting healthy hair growth. Use a soft-bristle brush or a wide-tooth comb to avoid causing any discomfort. I would recommend our Luxury Paddle Brush or our Luxury Wide Tooth Comb.

Hydrate with a Leave-In Conditioner

  • Children’s hair can easily become dry, especially if they are active during the day. Applying a leave-in conditioner can provide the necessary hydration and prevent hair from becoming brittle. Look for products that are specifically designed for children’s delicate hair to avoid harsh chemicals.

    Braid or Tie Hair Loosely

    • To minimise tangling and breakage, loosely braid or tie your child’s hair before they go to bed. This not only keeps the hair tidy but also reduces the chances of morning bedhead. Make sure the braids or ties are not too tight to prevent any tension on the scalp.

Use a Silk or Satin Pillowcase

    • Silk or satin pillowcases are gentle on the hair and help reduce friction, which can lead to tangling and breakage. Investing in a good quality pillowcase can make a significant difference in maintaining the health of your child’s hair.

      Nightly Scalp Massage

      • Incorporate a few minutes of scalp massage into the routine. This can be a relaxing way to end the day while stimulating blood flow to the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth.

      Consistency is Key

      • Like any routine, consistency is essential. Make hair care a non-negotiable part of the bedtime routine. Over time, it will become second nature to your children, and they will appreciate the benefits of having well-maintained hair.

        Quick and Easy Blow-Dry Tips

        Prep is Key:

        1. Heat Protectant: Apply a heat protectant spray to damp hair from roots to tips. This shields your hair from heat damage.
        2. Sectioning: Divide your hair into manageable sections using clips. This allows you to focus on one area at a time.
        3. Brush and Dryer: Grab your round brush and hairdryer. Aim the dryer nozzle downwards for better control.

        Blow Dry Tips

        The Blow-dry Technique:

        1. Root Lift: Place the brush under a hair section near the roots. Lift the brush and hair upwards as you blow-dry from root to tip. This creates volume.
        2. Curls for Bounce: As you reach the ends, rotate the brush inwards or outwards (depending on your desired curl direction) and continue blow-drying until the section is dry.
        3. Setting the Bounce: Once a section is dry, hold the brush in place for a few seconds to “set” the shape. Then, release and move on to the next section.

          Finshing Touches:

          1. Shake it Out: Once all sections are dry, gently shake your hair to loosen the curls and set with hair spray.

‘Juggling a business with family life was a whirlwind. Life becomes a desperate race against the clock, from work demands to family needs. Guilt also creeps in A LOT! – am I neglecting the kids, my husband, or the business? Merging your personal and professional lives can blur boundaries, making it hard to switch off and enjoy quality family time. However, with clear communication, strong support systems, and a lot of flexibility, there is always a way to make our dream’s a reality.

            Nicola’s BROOD Moment:

The morning began with the boys arguing and frantically looking for their PE kit for sports day, whilst I was chopping onions and browning beef for my famous chilli con carne. I popped the pot in the oven on low, feeling very organised that I already had tea done before 9 am!  School lunches were all packed, so I rushed the boys out the door and into the car. Work seemed to go incredibly fast and before I knew it, it was time for sports day so I parked the car and walked round the corner to the school.

As always, I was late and I had missed a couple of the races but it was nice to catch up with the other mums in the playground. About an hour later, a mass of smoke was coming from the direction of our house and as I am known for being a terrible cook, one of the mums asked “Have you been cooking again Nicola?” It couldn’t be me, surely not… but it was. I ran home, and as I got closer there was smoke bellowing out of the front door and a fire engine was at the top of my drive. Inside, the smoke was thick, the charred remains of the chili still in the oven. Low wasn’t quite low enough. How the house hadn’t gone up in flames remained a mystery. Chilli was definitely off the menu!
